Good Faith Estimate

No Surprises Act

Under the No Surprises Act, health care providers—including mental health professionals—are required to give clients who do not have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the expected charges for services.

What You Should Know

  • You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate (GFE) explaining how much your therapy services will cost.

  • You will receive this estimate in writing before your first session or upon request at any time.

  • The GFE will include expected costs of services such as individual therapy sessions and any additional fees (if applicable).

  • This estimate is not a contract or a bill—it is simply designed to give you transparency about the potential cost of care.

Example of Estimated Costs

If we decide to meet weekly for individual therapy, your Good Faith Estimate might look like this:

  • Session Length: 50 minutes

  • Fee per Session: $140

  • Estimated Frequency: 1 session per week

  • Estimated Duration of Treatment: 6 months

  • Estimated Total Cost: $3,360 over 6 months

(Please note: frequency and duration may vary based on your needs and preferences, and you are never required to continue therapy for any specific length of time.)

You Have Rights

If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill.
